The 2011 Import and Export Market for Linoleum and Linoleum-Type Floor Coverings in Germany

The 2011 Import and Export Market for Linoleum and Linoleum-Type Floor Coverings in Germany

On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on linoleum and linoleum-type floor coverings in Germany face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying linoleum and linoleum-type floor coverings to Germany? How important is Germany compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of linoleum and linoleum-type floor coverings vary from one country of origin to another in Germany? On the supply side, Germany also exports linoleum and linoleum-type floor coverings. Which countries receive the most exports from Germany? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers?

This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for linoleum and linoleum-type floor coverings in Germany. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for linoleum and linoleum-type floor coverings for those countries serving Germany via exports, or supplying from Germany via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models.

In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where Germany fits into the world market for imported and exported linoleum and linoleum-type floor coverings. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for Germany in particular, is estimated using a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive

1946 Volkswagen, Type 11, Nethercutt

1946 Volkswagen, Type 11, Nethercutt

This 1946 Volkswagen, Type 11, saloon, is an early VW that was built in Wolfsburg, Germany, under British occupation of the factory after World War II.

"Prototypes of 'The People's Car' were built as early as 1934 by Ferdinand Porsche under {Adolf} Hitler's direction," states information provided by The Nethercutt Collection, where this vehicle is featured.

(The Nethercutt Collection may want to correct a glaring error in the spelling of Hitler's first name. It was not spelled "Adolph." It was Adolf.)

However, during World War II, the factory was converted into making two Nazi vehicles, Type 82 Kubelwagen ("Bucket car") utility vehicle, which was VW's most-common Nazi model, and the amphibious Schwimmwagen that was used by Nazi armed forces.

The dirty little secret is that, with Porsche's knowledge, 7,000 slave laborers suffered incredible agonies while working there.

Volkswagen was one of approximately 12,000 German companies using slave laborers.

Porsche's legacy is one of infamy because he collaborated with the Nazis and enjoyed his close relationship with Hitler, no matter what revisionists want to claim. He knew what was going on. He visited the plant.

It took VW 50 years to officially concede its immoral actions.

While the British thought of relocating the VW plant to the United Kingdom, and while American automotive makers balked at any consideration of taking it over, it is important to remember that, despite Porsche's moral failings, he was a visionary who built upon the work of other automotive visionaries.

Nethercutt Collection founder J.B. Nethercutt was correct when he said, in the 1970s, that "Volkswagen is the message that Detroit ignored."

Ford, led by Henry Ford II, the son of Edsel Ford, said the car wasn't worth a darn.

Volkswagen got that last laugh on that one, considering how many crummy cars Ford has made over the years, including the infamous Edsel.

In fact, speaking of the Edsel, Time magazine listed the Edsel as one of the 50 worst cars of all time. That's saying something, when you are in competition with Pintos and Gremlins.

Although I haven't done the research, I would guess that VW cars have fared much better on ratings than Ford's over the years on comparable models.

The 2011 World Forecasts of Linoleum and Linoleum-Type Floor Coverings Export Supplies

This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and export managers whose primary concern is the world market for linoleum and linoleum-type floor coverings. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics that appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for linoleum and linoleum-type floor coverings for those firms serving the world via exports and foreign direct investment. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models.

In what follows, this report begins by summarizing the world market for linoleum and linoleum-type floor coverings exports. The total level of exports on a worldwide basis is based on a model that aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive countries of origin. Based on supply-side dynamics, market shares by country of origin are then calculated across each country market. These shares lead to a volume of export values for each country and are aggregated to regional and world totals. In doing so, we are able to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of both the value of each supplier and the destinations (countries served by the supplier country). From these figures, world rankings are calculated. In this way, all the figures provided in this report are forecasts that can be combined with internal information for strategic planning purposes.
